What We Collect

Witness collects the following data at the time of evidence capture, solely to provide the core functionality of the app:

• Camera: Photos captured by you for evidence documentation. We do not access your camera roll or existing photos.
• Location: GPS coordinates at the time of capture, embedded as metadata in the evidence record. Location is optional — the app works without it.
• Device info: Manufacturer, model, and OS version, recorded as part of the evidence metadata chain of custody.

How Data Is Stored

All evidence data is stored locally on your device in the app's private storage directory. No data leaves your device unless you explicitly choose to:

• Export: Share the evidence image (with embedded EXIF metadata) via Android's share sheet.
• Share Link (Pro/Business subscribers): Upload the evidence image to our cloud service to generate a verification link. Uploaded images are stored securely on Supabase infrastructure (US-East).

Authentication

If you choose to sign in (required only for cloud sharing features), we use Google Sign-In via Supabase Auth. We receive your email address and display name from Google. We do not receive or store your Google password.

Cloud Sharing

When you generate a share link, the evidence image and its metadata are uploaded to our cloud storage. Anyone with the share link can view the evidence image, metadata, and chain of custody. Share links are accessible until they expire or are deleted.

What We Do NOT Collect

• We do not collect analytics or usage data.
• We do not serve advertisements.
• We do not sell, share, or trade your personal data with third parties.
• We do not access your camera roll, contacts, microphone (except for video capture), or any data beyond what is described above.

Data Retention

Local data persists on your device until you uninstall the app. Cloud-shared evidence is retained according to your subscription tier. You may delete cloud-shared evidence at any time.

Children's Privacy

Witness is not intended for use by children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy as the app evolves. Changes will be posted at this URL. Continued use of the app constitutes acceptance of any updates.
